Welcome to 2024!

Happy New Year! It is with a sigh of relief (as I’m sure many of you agree) that we leave 2023 behind and turn our hopes toward 2024.

In numerology, 2024 is represented by the number 8, which is the theme of the immovable mountain. This is an incredibly powerful, solid, and stable energy that carries the qualities of achievement, compassion, endurance, deep thought, and contemplation, countermanded by the potential to be materialistic, overly confident, and stubborn.

On its side the 8 represents the infinity symbol, which reminds us of the ebb and flow of life, and that everything equally has two sides that are invariably intertwined. Balance in all things will be key this year.

2024 is also the Year of the Yang Wood Dragon, which symbolizes power, strength, transformation, and progress. In the 5 Elements, yang Wood is representative of a big, upright tree with deep roots. It is a forceful and ambitious energy that has the ability to clearly envision what is needed and get it done, a key component for this year’s energy.

So, with these aspects in mind we can see that 2024 represents powerful, authoritative energy that we can tap into. This is a time to take the leap and offer your gifts to the world while at the same time cultivating a balance between giving and over-giving. During the year you may be called to retreat to the metaphorical cave within the mountain to recharge, contemplate, and consider your best options and actions. This could look like carving out time for meditation or an activity that gives you downtime and/or relaxation. Or recognizing when you’re overwhelmed and need to take a step back, and actually doing so! It doesn’t matter how you do it, just that you actually do retreat.

Another necessity is self-care, in all its forms. Life tends to move at warp speed and it’s easy to diminish our needs in the face of others – but that is exactly what we much watch out for this year. When we don’t practice self-care (mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and physically) we put ourselves in situations where we can’t actually do as much as we’d like. Be a passionate advocate for your needs, not just everyone else’s.

To support you this year, I invite you to adopt one or more of the following affirmations and once you do, really embrace them. Write them out on a sticky note and post it in a place you’ll see it often. Make them into a mantra that you memorize and recite to yourself before bedtime each night. Add them to your vision board or set of goals that you visit regularly. In all these instances, really take time to sink into the words, the meaning of them, and how they make you feel.

Affirmations for the New Year

  • I move forward with courage and faith, facing change and adversity with calm resolve.

  • I release the need to do things for everyone else before myself.

  • I forgive and let go of judgement of myself and others.

  • I know good things lie ahead for me.

  • I find ways to laugh each day and enjoy the many gifts life has brought to me.

  • I trust that I am always divinely guided and protected. All is well.

As you step into 2024, there is one important thing to consider. Because the energy of this year is so powerful it can potentially be overwhelming for some people. If this winds up being true for you, I urge you to reach out to a trustworthy partner who can help you get unstuck and navigate the currents of the year with ease and flow. This could be a counselor or therapist, intuitive guide, or energy worker that can facilitate what you individually need.

May this year offer you the richest gifts of abundance, peace, and joy.
