Aligning Your Home and Business With 2024’s New Qi

Note: the red squares correspond to the Tai Sui, 3 Killings, Sui Po, and Misfortune (Annual 5 Yellow) stars denoting less desirable or challenging qi

Every year in early February, the qi of our homes and places of business shift, bringing beneficial energy in certain areas and less favorable energy in others.

If we pay attention to what is needed to harmonize specific locations in our homes or businesses, we can ensure that we will reap the benefits of the auspicious qi and lessen the potential of misfortune. Let’s break it down.

Beneficial Qi

This year there are several stars that bring supportive qi that we can tap into:

Victory Star

Located in the East this year, the Victory Star supports career success and relationships. This is a good area to make phone calls or conduct affairs related to business. If you have a main door in the East this year you can expect success with incoming wealth.

To activate the Victory Star and help the qi flow more harmoniously in this area this year, add Metal element (white, cream, grey and metallic colors, and circular/oval shapes) if there isn’t some in the area already.

Academic & Romance Star

The Academic and Romance Star can bring luck to affairs of the heart and relationships. It can also enhance academic efforts, making it a great area to set up a desk or study in. Located in the Northwest this year, a main door in this area will bring career progression and academic development.

To support the Academic and Romance star, add Water element (dark blue or black, or wavy shapes). If you want to heighten romance this year, brighten the area with beautiful flowers or add small touches of pink or red. If your focus is on studying, add a bookshelf, books, or a desk in this area.

Heavenly Star

The benevolent Heavenly Star flies to the Northeast this year, bringing blessings and potential monetary gain and windfalls. You can activate this money luck by placing an altar, treasure chest, crystals, or other symbols of abundance in the Northeast section of your home or business.

You can also add Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes) to further activate the positive qi and make the Heavenly Star shine brightly. Avoid Wood Element (greens and rectangular shapes) as well as Water element (dark blue or black, and wavy shapes).

Prosperity Star

Located in the North this year, this star brings beneficial qi for wealth, prosperity, fame, and success. You can expect career advancements, breakthroughs in business, and many other good things to come your way if this sector is properly supported. If you have a main door here it will improve your wealth luck and career advancement.

To support the qi in this area this year, limit Metal element (white, cream, grey and metallic colors and/or round or oval objects) and add Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes).

Multiplicative Star

This is a lovely star that is known for its ability to multiply positive events in your life. Located in Southwest this year, it is a great place to conduct joyful occasions such as parties and celebrations.

Be sure that this area has good light, is clean and tidy, and that the air can flow freely. You can also add an altar or something symbolizing abundance here to activate the money luck it also offers. If you have a main door here, it will benefit your wealth luck.

Add a small amount of Wood element (green or blue, and rectangular shapes) to further support this star.

Note:  The Sui Po, a non-beneficial form of qi, is located here this year too so please read the description for it below.

Untimely Qi

Now for the less beneficial qi. Each year there are areas that are essential to address because to ignore them is to experience challenges such as illness, loss of wealth, and problems in relationships.

BUT! Before you dive into this list, please keep in mind that it is very important to not get too worked up about the less favorable directions. Do what you can and don’t worry about the rest. If you can only manage one aspect of what I recommend, then you are one step ahead.

If you want to prioritize, the most important locations to consider are the Wu Wang (West), the Three Killings (South), the Tai Sui (Southeast), and the Sui Po (Southwest). The best thing to do in these areas is just keep them as undisturbed and quiet as possible.

If your front door or a main door is located in the West, South, Southeast, or Southwest avoid using it if at all possible. If you must, then oil the hinges and shut the door gently each time you use it.

Ok, on to the details!

Misfortune Star (Wu Wang)

Probably the most important location to keep undisturbed this year, the Misfortune Star is in the West this year. This is an area that should be kept quiet and undisturbed as much as possible as not doing so can invite financial chaos, illness, and difficulties.

Make sure that this area is free from clutter and incorporate golden yellow, which is pleasing to the Wu Wang (Emperor).

Three Killings (San Sha)

Located in in the South this year, if this area is disturbed it can impact finances, health, concentration, and communication, not to mention putting obstacles in your path! It is important to avoid digging (small holes for plants are ok though) or making loud noises in this area. Postpone any major changes or renovations.

Tai Sui (aka Grand Duke)

The Grand Duke is in the Southeast this year. Ensure that this location stays quiet and undisturbed and avoid doing any kind of renovation or repairs that cause a lot of noise in this area unless you are renovating an entire building. It’s also important to not face Southeast for long periods of time either sitting or sleeping. As the Grand Duke represents authority, it is ideal to arrange your furniture so that his energy is behind you.

Sui Po

A non-beneficial form of qi, is located in the Southwest this year so it’s important to avoid loud noises and renovations in this location too this year.

Sickness Star

Located in the Southeast (along with the Tai Sui), this star can cause health issues, particularly if underlying issues are already present. Add some Metal element (white, cream, grey and metallic colors, and round/oval objects) to limit its impact. Avoid adding any Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes).

I don’t often recommend physical cures, but you can place a metal windchime in this sector, just for the year. Make sure the windchime sounds harmonious, not jangly. You can also place a chiming clock that chimes every quarter hour. Make sure the chime is pleasing to the ear.

Quarrelsome Star

Located in the Center this year, the Quarrelsome Star can lead to conflict, gossip, arguments, and legal troubles. It can also cause emotional turmoil and unhappiness. This is definitely not an area to have an intense conversation or disagreement as it will potentially escalate.

To help balance the qi of this sector, add Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes). Limit Water element (dark blue or black, and wavy shapes) and omit real water such as fountains or other water features.

Betrayal/Robbery Star

The Betrayal/Robbery Star flies to the South (along with the Three Killings) this year and it can bring unexpected expenses and loss of wealth through various means such as burglary, poor money management and/or impulse spending. Fortunately, this star is already paired with Fire element, due to its location, so nothing extra is needed to help balance the qi. However, if you have a main door in the South, avoid using it as much as possible.
