Today I’m sharing some key feng shui tips to make 2021 even better!

Each year in early February the qi (energy) shifts, bringing both good fortune and potential issues. If we pay attention to what is needed to harmonize specific locations in our homes or businesses, we can ensure that we will reap the benefits of the auspicious qi and lessen the potential of misfortune. Let’s break it down.

Beneficial Qi

This year there are several stars that bring supportive and beneficial qi that we can tap into:

Victory Star: Located in the South this year, the Victory Star supports career success and relationships. This is a good area to make phone calls or conduct affairs related to business.

If you are single and want to be in a relationship, consider placing fresh roses and/or peach blossoms in this location. (Be sure to enhance the Peach Blossom Star sector too, which is detailed below). If you are married and want to enhance your relationship, place amethyst crystals in this sector.

To help the qi flow more harmoniously in this area this year, add Wood element (greens, rectangular shapes, and houseplants). You can also add splashes of Metal element (white, grey, and metallic colors and/or round or oval objects).

Peach Blossom Star: The Peach Blossom Star can bring luck to affairs of the heart and relationships. It can also enhance academic efforts, making it a great area to set up a desk or study in. Located in the East this year, there is no need to balance the qi, but you can brighten this sector with beautiful flowers. Do limit Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes).

Note: The Three Killings or San Sha, a non-beneficial form of qi, is located here this year too, so please read the description for it below.

Heavenly Star: The benevolent Heavenly Star has flown to the Center sector this year, bringing blessings for all and potential monetary gain and windfalls. (Sign me up!) You can activate this money luck by placing an altar, treasure chest, crystals, or other symbols of abundance in the center of your home or business.

The Heavenly Star is related to physical types of careers including athletes, police, construction, firefighting, etc. so these types of careers will be highlighted this year.

Nothing is needed to enhance the qi here this year but do make sure that this area is free from clutter.

Prosperity Star:  Located in the West this year, this star is the most auspicious and timely, bringing beneficial qi for wealth, health, prosperity, fame, and success. You can expect career advancements, breakthroughs in business, and many other good things to come your way if this sector is properly supported. Homes and business whose main doors face West will be very lucky this year.

To support the qi in this area this year, limit Metal element (white, grey, and metallic colors and/or round or oval objects) and add Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes).

Also, it is important to be generous this year in any way you can – not over giving! – but tithing and supporting others whenever possible. The more generous we are, the more likely we are to receive blessings (monetary and other).

Future Prosperity Star: This is a lovely star that can bring news of happy events. Located in Northeast this year, it is a great place to conduct joyful occasions such as parties and celebrations.

Be sure that this area has good light, is clean and tidy, and that the air can flow freely. Add Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes) to help balance the qi. You can also add an altar or something symbolizing abundance here to activate the money luck it potentially offers.

Note: The Tai Sui, a non-beneficial form of qi, is located here as well this year. Please be sure to read its description below.

Untimely Qi

Now for the less beneficial qi. Each year there are areas that are essential to address because to ignore them is to invite varying degrees of misfortune such as illness, loss of wealth, and problems in relationships. BUT! Before you dive into this list please keep in mind that it is very important to not get worked up about the less favorable directions. Do what you can and don’t worry about the rest. If you can only manage one aspect of what I recommend, then you are one step ahead.

If you want to prioritize, the most important locations to consider are the Annual 5 Yellow (Southeast), the Three Killings (East), and the Tai Sui (Northeast). The best thing to do in these areas is just keep them as undisturbed and quiet as possible.

Ok, on to the details.

Sickness Star:  Located in the North this year, this star can cause health issues. It is minimized somewhat this year due to the qi that it is paired with, but you do want to avoid having your bed or desk face North. You’ll also want to add some Metal element (white, grey and metallic colors and round/oval objects) if there isn’t some there already.

Quarrelsome Star:  Located in the Southwest this year, the Quarrelsome Star can lead to conflict, gossip, arguments, and legal troubles. It can also cause emotional turmoil and unhappiness. If your front door and/or windows open to the Southwest or your kitchen, desk or bedroom are in this sector, disputes and conflicts can happen, leading to a less than harmonious atmosphere.

The Sui Po, a non-beneficial form of qi, is also located here this year so it’s important to avoid loud noises and renovations this year. When the Sui Po is disturbed it can cause health issues, so keep this area on your radar!

To help balance the qi of this sector, add Fire element (red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes). Limit Water element (dark blue or black, wavy shapes) and omit real water such as fountains or other water features.

Annual 5 Yellow (Wu Wang):  The Annual 5 Yellow is in the Southeast this year and is the most important direction to pay attention to as ignoring it can invite financial chaos and difficulties. This is an area that should be kept quiet and undisturbed as much as possible. Incorporate Metal element (white, grey, and metallic colors and round/oval objects) to minimize its effect.

Robbery Star:  This star flies to the Northwest this year and it can bring unexpected expenses and loss of wealth through various means such as burglary, poor money management and/or impulse spending. To help balance this qi, add Water element (dark blue or black, wavy shapes) or Fire element red, orange, purple, pink, and triangular shapes). Do NOT add real water though!

Three Killings (San Sha): Located in in the East this year, if this area is disturbed it can impact finances, concentration, and communication, not to mention putting obstacles in your path! It is important to avoid digging or making loud noises in this area and postpone any major changes or renovations.

Although the Peach Blossom Star is here this year, it will be more beneficial to face East while studying or working, instead of placing yourself or your desk in the sector.

Tai Sui (aka Grand Duke): The Grand Duke is in the Northeast this year. Ensure that this location stays quiet and undisturbed and avoid doing any kind of renovation or repairs that cause a lot of noise in this area unless you are renovating an entire structure. It’s also important to not face Northeast for long periods of time either sitting or sleeping. As the Grand Duke represents authority, it is ideal to arrange your furniture so that his energy is behind you.

There you have it! These are general recommendations, so if you find you need more clarity or want specific directions for your home or business, consider having a feng shui consult done.
